When To Start Finishing Concrete (My Tips & Techniques)

The timing of when you start finishing concrete is very important to getting good results. Once you learn the timing and how to check the concrete, your finishing skills start to get a lot better. In this video I'm mainly talking about finishing concrete floors but knowing when to start finishing concrete walks, pool decks, driveways and concrete patios is all done the same way. I like to check the concrete by pressing my fingers into the surface. If you can press your fingers into the concrete more than 3/8 of an inch, the concrete isn't ready to start finishing yet. If you can only press your fingers into the surface about 1/8 of an inch this is telling you the concrete is very close if not ready to start finishing.
